Kaninë Castle

On Monday we went with the missionaries to see something where we live on top of the mountain just east of Vlore. The designated preparation day to kick back! We met at 9 AM with the Smith’s upset because we could not find our camera, but the missionaries were all very excited and it rubbed off onto us. The North Elders greeted us by a bakery as they eat their yummy Albanian chocolate filled rolls. Soon the South Elder came carrying a large watermelon in a bag now this is December where did this come from??? We were still waiting on the arrival of the Sweet Sister so more yummy Albanian chocolate filled rolls were ordered. Two Elder went to get a “Furgon” a van and driver. Finally the Sister came and they need a yummy Albanian chocolate filled roll as they are paying the Elders across the street have secured us a furgon for the trip.

So with large melon and chocolate rolls they are ready to go. We walk a little ways and found the furgon and were excited for the adventure and start loading in with 8 of us and 3 more Albanian’s we are ready. About a 15 minutes ride up the steep mountain to the east of Vlorë and we get dropped off.

With the watermelon in hand a way goes the first 2 Elder’s up the hill, the Sister state their reason for coming is to find a flock of sheep or even one will do for their Christmas video for their families. And just around the corner of the steep path here is the fluffy sheep 2 large rams with horns the Sister take off coats and put on their sheets as their shepherds clothes and we leave them for their task of filming with the other Elders. We were told later the cute sheep started to charge them and they were scared and would not do the filming. Trusting with hope for the lamb to be provided latter, away they come up the hill.

It was very cold with the wind but it was a good time to explore an old Roman castle/village. When we had walked all around and enjoy the sight from all 4 sides we started looking to see if the missionaries were ready to go back to the furgon. We heard cheering and laughter from the missionaries, they has filmed the watermelon being tossed off the highest point of the castle wall. They had filmed the watermelon from the top down and from the bottom up but the watermelon hit very close to the missionary at the bottom and splattered all over her cloths.

We had so much fun that we went back to our apartment found the camera and got in our makine (car) and went right back up and took pictures.
